“I’M SUCH A KLUTZ”
No one is born with the innate ability to function successfully in an alien environment and, for most people, a violent assault is an alien environment of the worst kind.
Have you ever said or heard someone else say words like: “I’m such a klutz. I have absolutely no coordination and can’t do anything athletic. I’ve never been good at sports and probably never will be?”
Well, you’re right, you are a klutz and sports aren’t your thing either. HOWEVER, unless you’re disabled in some fashion, the primary reason why you can’t perform coordinated movements very well is because you have been trained to move badly and you have learned to move badly -- very well.
If you think about it, you will realize that everything that you know how to do is, in one way or another, a direct result of training. Do you honestly know how many complex movements you perform in a day and don’t think twice about them? A couple of examples would be: brushing your teeth, combing your hair, and putting keys in the ignition of your car…just to name a few. You have learned to do many things well and the things that you have learned how to do badly can be re-learned to do well. It’s a matter of proper training.
A physical confrontation is an athletic activity and the more athletically skilled you are, the better you’ll be able to perform. If you train diligently, consistently and long enough to fully develop your potential, you will, among other things, become more physically fit. As you become more fit and develop more athletic skills, you become more proficient at athletic activities. |
